Meifang Zhang has been the Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in NY since November 2013. Prior to that, she was the Deputy Consul General of China in Toronto in 2008-2013. In 2004-2008 Meifang was the Director of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Beijing. She also worked as a special assistant to H.E. Qian Qichen, China’s former Vice Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs on the High-Level Panel on the Reform, Challenges and Change of the United Nations. Before that, she served as the Assistant Chairperson of the Public Relations Department of Beijing 2000 Olympic Games Bid Committee. In 1990s, she worked in MFA as an official Interpreter for Chinese leaders and some foreign heads of state and government during their official trips in China. Meifang spent four years in the Chinese Embassy in Paris and over two years in the Permanent Mission of China to UN. Meifang was born in Shanghai. She got BA in East China Normal Unversity and MPHIL in International Relations in Cambridge.
