Harvard China Review covers issues pertinent to the historical transformations occurring in Greater China from an academic angle, examining the prospects and difficulties confronted by the region as China develops rapidly into a rising power It targets scholars, policy makers, and business executives who are not only interested in Greater China, but whose careers depend on insightful information about the region. It also speaks to students and general readers who feel the need for objective discussions on crucial issues in this area.

Each issue devotes to a specific theme while still covering a variety of other topics on economic, political, and social policy. Past issues focused on a variety of themes including Chinese financial system, US-China relations, education, 150 years of Chinese students studying abroad, environment, and globalization, etc.

HCR distributed to 720 research and public libraries, 320 institutions of higher education, and 2000 individual subscribers in the United States. The latest issue seeks to expand on its current readership and explore a new market in China. For every issue HCR plans to distribute 750 to 1500 copies for free to the Harvard community.
