The overturn of this case has been frequently cited as a landmark in promoting the rule of law over the past 40 years of reform and opening up in China. The work reports of the People’s Supreme Court and People’s Supreme Procuratorate delivered at the plenary session of 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) in March 2019 described his case as a wrongful conviction that has been corrected to fully protect the property rights of private enterprises and entrepreneurs.
